2022/04/08, 13:46 - Neil Parsons: Good afternoon all, What are the preferred tranquiliser combos for mass captured zebra? I have used a variety of combos including azaperone, oil-based perphenazine and medetomidine. I would like to use water-based perphenazine (WBP / perphenazine hydrochloride) at the recommended doses and if necessary medetomidine or midazolam as well. Was thinking 50mg WBP (or higher) and 4mg medetomidine for the particularly aggressive adults. What dose of midazolam would you suggest as an alternative to medetomidine in zebra? 2022/04/08, 18:07 - Henry Labuschagne: If possible dart stallions and aggressive mares in boma with drop out darts before loading. Use WBP 50mg in mares and 60 in stallions. Do not mix different family groups. Roof of trailer must not be too high to allow jumping. 2022/04/08, 19:46 - Neil Parsons: It's interesting that you say a low roof is better. We have high containers and one container that is a medium height. The medium container (about 2m high) is definitely more lethal than the high ones (roughly 2.4m). 2022/04/08, 20:13 - Ulf Tubessing: As far as loading zebra 1) dont mix groups 2) tranquillise and have effect before loading 3) either low roof or high roof trailer works. Low roof tends to limit their ability to rear up with momentum to "bump head"; with a high roof they cant "bump head". Giraffe trailer works best.
