Louis Greeff, [21 Nov 2023 at 19:30:25]: This zebra foal arrived unexpectedly at a house with these symptoms. I usually put modified Robert Jones bandage on for 2 to 3 days and confine it. Is there any other way to treat it? Bart Gazendam, [21 Nov 2023 at 19:42:14]: If you have a horse farrier close by, he might be able to put shoes on with an extended heel. Horse foals usually grow out of it. Make sure that it doesn’t get wounds if the fetlocks do touch the ground. Limit movement, otherwise it stretches the tendons further. Henry Labuschagne, [21 Nov 2023 at 19:46:48]: Bandaging makes the situation worse. You need to extend the heels. I use Demotec to fix a piece of wood as heel extension to the sole. Exercise strengthens the ligaments and tendons. I had good success with a foal that I extended the heels and let it exercise on a treadmill whilst supporting the body with a blanket as a sling on the belly.
