Cobus Raath, 10 Aug 2024. Hi everyone, this white lion has had these symptoms for two years. Its vaccinated, eating well, but has liquid draining from its mouth that has with unpleasant smell. The blood analysis seems to be fine, I have never seen this before. Any help? Thanks Henry Labuschagne, [10 Aug 2024 at 20:23:10]: I have seen similar lesions on tongue in domestic cats that licked wounds treated with Necrospray. Cobus Raath, [10 Aug 2024 at 20:24:51]: Thanks Henry, but this has been same for two years! Weird! Henry Labuschagne, [10 Aug 2024 at 20:30:39]: Sorry Cobus I thought he is 2 yrs. If lesion is there for 2 years maybe you should do histopathology. Those cats that I have seen with glossitis after Necrospray licking resolve in about a week with saltwater mouthwash and Petdent oral rinse. Cobus Raath, [10 Aug 2024 at 20:34:14]: Thanks Henry, this is weird to me and chronic, two years now. Pierre Nel, [11 Aug 2024 at 07:39:47 What about the auto-immune diseases - pemphigus, lupus, bullous pemphigoid🤷♂️. Will need histopathology, agreed. Cobus Raath, [11 Aug 2024 at 07:41:25]: Hi Pierre, yes, that is the next step. Will keep you informed, never saw this in 40 years! 🙈 Peter Caldwell, [24 Aug 2024 at 09:30:59]: Hi Cobus, this is a late reply but only saw this now. In my opinion this is viral, and likely to be Calicivirus infection. Take swabs of tongue and EDTA blood and send for PCR, check antibodies as well. Also probably top of the list would be squamous cell carcinoma, for which biopsies are indicated. I had an identical looking case in a Bengal tiger and biopsies revealed squamous cell carcinoma - my guess in that case it was due to long term persistence most likely neoplasia, most likely solar induced. Gerhard Steenkamp could shed more light on this, or you welcome to contact me for further recommendations. Cobus Raath, [27 Aug 2024 at 10:26:03]: Thanks Peter, appreciated. Can I share your contact details with them? We can give feedback once resolved. Peter Caldwell, [27 Aug 2024 at 19:12:28]: Yes, for sure Cobus.
