[2022/02/24, 14:10:55] Joel Alves: Afternoon all. I know it’s been touched on here and there, but my phone wiped a whole lot of messages so I am wondering if anyone has got doses for WB Perphenazine (perphenazine hydrochloride) for adult elephant bulls for transport? Likely 12-14 hour trip, so I’m keen to try it out! In addition, did the initial immobilization cocktail contain azaperone at normal or lowered doses? And was reversal with diprenorphine or naltrexone? Thanks a mil for any info. [2022/02/24, 15:10:26] Douw Grobler: Hi Joel. We have only done a few with WBP but the results seems to be very good. 3.2 m shoulder height, I use 200 mg IM. I still use azaperone in the dart, but not more than 40 mg, otherwise they do not stand easily. I definitely use naltrexone to reverse. [2022/02/24, 20:40:20] HO Reuter: Hi Joel. For some mature cows, and young bulls of shoulder height 240-265 cm, I have used 160 mg WBP with no azaperone in the dart. I do however much prefer adding azaperone at least 40 mg in dart. (We did lose a heifer with pink froth syndrome using only etorphine in dart). To avoid extrapyramidal symptoms, I reduced WBP on these cows darted with 40 mg azaperone to only 100 mg. I think 120 up to max. 160 mg should also be OK on these on top of 40 mg azaperone in the dart? But not sure. Generally, in other species I avoid using azaperone and WBP together? 2022/02/24, 21:56:31] Ulf Tubessing: Hi Joel. I like the WBP in elephant. However, a lot depends on capture circumstances! If recovery is likely to be quick and efficient (predictable circumstances), I knock down with M99 and give WBP in a wake-up crate IM at same time as naltrexone IV. This should get them standing up nicely. If you give naltrexone too early and/or IV they will battle standing up. If azaperone used in dart, consider lowering WBP dose from 200 to 150 mg [2022/02/25, 06:22:13] Joel Alves: Thanks a lot Ulf, Douw and HO. Appreciate the information. Will give feedback next week after hopefully trying it out.
