Gareth Hunter : 31 August 2022 Any advice for immobilising axis deer? I believe BAM is a good option. Any idea on dosage? Henry Labuschagne: I use 1mg M99 + 2mg medetomidine + 50 mg ketamine. Gareth Hunter : 9 September 2022 Tried BAM on the axis deer. Quite an old animal so tried to go lower on the medetomidine, but over-estimated weight. So landed up being a bit of a higher dose than I planned. Butorphanol 20 mg (0.4mg/kg), azaperone 8mg (0.16mg/kg) and medetomidine 4.5 mg (0.09mg/kg). Worked really nicely. Down in 5. Oxygen saturation levels really good the entire time. Got up within 20 secs of reversal IV. Many sickle cells on the blood smear - a normal in vitro change among certain deer species however.
