Henry Labuschagne, [28 Jul 2022 at 10:12:36]: Adrian, what is your advice to supplement Taurine in serval ? FeliVit contains Taurine. Adrian Tordiffe, [28 Jul 2022 at 11:11:03]: Taurine is present in relatively large amounts in raw muscle meat (higher in hard working muscles). I hardly ever see clinical taurine deficiency in wild carnivores that are not getting a processed diet. I do not include it in any of my supplements. I recommend you feed some raw chicken or lamb hearts to the serval if you are worried about it. Taurine deficiency is mostly seen in countries that use processed diets Gut bacteria can break down taurine. So if you suspect a small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), then perhaps think of supplementing, but I reckon most captive cheetahs have some degree of SIBO and yet they still don't often get dilative cardiomyopathy, retinopathy or other signs of taurine deficiency.
