At this stage probably the only place and not easy to know if you are in an artery or vein, but if you get the syringe self-filling it’s probably the artery. Citino: When doing our anaesthesia studies on hippos, we were generally able to get multiple arterial samples from the caudal artery - just make sure the syringe is self-filling.
