Annie Mears, [05 Mar 2024 at 14:44:25]: Hi does anyone have any experience with moving baboons, sedation protocols for the difficult one and tranquilisation for calm ones in boxes Robert Campbell, [06 Mar 2024 at 06:23:43]: Hi Annie. Are the free roaming or captive, how many? Also in what type of circumstances will you be immobilizing them. This determine the protocol i use. Primates are tricky and safely always a big concern. Annie Mears, [06 Mar 2024 at 06:24:52]: They are captive and apparently tame - they need to be relocated in boxes. I intend to go check out the situation before I go to move. I imagine some will need to be immobilised, some perhaps will need just a tranquiliser for the journey Robert Campbell, [06 Mar 2024 at 06:47:15]: Easiest is then to do crate or cage capture. Are they use to being brought in to an area for feeding? How fast does the relocation need to happen? They wise up very fast if darting! I use a combination of medetomidine 0.03mg/kg and ketamine 10mg/kg and midazolam 0.03mg/kg. Reversal with atipamezole at 1:5 ratio. Good luck.
