Gernot Redeker, 8 July 2024 Good day. This sable cow was weak and separated from herd. She was ataxic in all 4 limbs but mentally fully alert. She had saliva around the mouth. I darted her with 0.75 mg Thianil + 2 mg medetomidine 24hrs after the first symptoms. She went down in 3 minutes, and the initial clinical examination under immobilization was normal except she was hypersensitive to touch. The whole animal nearly jumped up when touching her anywhere on the body. She died under immobilization at 7 minute. The PM examination was macroscopically pretty unremarkable except for some froth in the trachea. Rabies tested negative. 5 days later the next animal started with the same symptoms. Any ideas of toxicity or viral infection? That would be my first 2 DD? Camp still has plenty of grass compared to previous 3 years. The food ration was the same as the past years - lucerne, grass and game mix mixed in mixer. Thanks in advance.
