[06:37, 26/05/2022] Douw Grobler : Does anyone have a reversible drug combination for kangaroos [07:15, 26/05/2022] Henry Labuschagne: I have only done one many moons ago and I used medetomidine 0.04mg per kg + ketamine 4mg per kg. It was an Eastern grey kangaroo. The body mass was 40kg. [07:16, 26/05/2022] Henry Labuschagne : You can also use Zoletil 5mg per kg, but the Zoletil will have to be metabolised and slept off. [07:21, 26/05/2022] Terrence Thovhakale : Hi Douw, I have used medetomidine 0,05mg/kg + ketamine 4mg/kg + midazolam 0,05mg/kg. This worked well for about 30-45min procedures, and they were then reversed fully. [08:35, 27/05/2022] Kresen Pillay: Hi Douw. I have not tried any fully reversible options as yet. Which species? I usually use KMM and ZM. Zoletil is used often in macropods as has historically been very safe and park rangers can get a licence to use it, but recoveries as always are very very long. There is a large variation in dosages between species and habituation/tractability. I haven't trialed BAM or BMM in any myself and am keen to see how it goes in a controlled setting with some changes to dosages (we just can’t get 50mg/ml butorphanol in Australia easily). There has been documentation that only achieved a light plane of sedation at the dosage used (BAM : 0.5, 0.2, 0.15mg/kg respectively ) and was currently not recommended for macropods until further investigation.
