Pierre Nel, [07 Jan 2024 at 11:52:05]: Anybody used maropitant (Cirenia) in birds (macaw)? Any idea about dosage? Willem Burger, [07 Jan 2024 at 12:05:07]: First deworm with Panacur or Lintex if regurgitating. Henry Labuschagne, [07 Jan 2024 at 12:31:42]: Off label use. 1mg/ kg sc up to b.i.d. It can cause a tissue reaction - I dilute with equal volume water for injection. NB to establish cause of regurgitation and use as a short-term strategy. I prefer metoclopramide as an antiemetic as it also helps with prokinesis and emptying with crop. Importantly, also check for an underlying fungal infection and treat accordingly. Please post history and signalment information. Pierre Nel, [08 Jan 2024 at 06:22:17]: I did not see the bird. The sent me a message after regurgitation continued despite her shotgun treatment. A 550g incubator hatched macaw. Slowly changed from Kaytee to a mix of Avimec and Goldwing (I not sure why) with a drop of canola oil added - after 2 days on this diet, the regurgitation started. She first gave Nystatin for a few days, then Medivital & Baytril, as the droppings seemed ‘oily’. She stopped the oil & slowly returned to Kaytee food. The regurgitation didn’t decrease – it is worst at the first morning feed and lessens as day progresses. Maropitant stopped the regurgitation.
