HO Reuter, [26 Jul 2023 at 06:58:02]: Good morning, How common is radial nerve damage from dart injury? I often dart neck or shoulder shots from the ground. Yesterday I must have hit the radial plexus of a nyala ewe with immediate front limb paralysis. Will a dose of Finadyne help recovery? Erik Verrynne, [26 Jul 2023 at 07:08:25]: It happens. Sorry to hear. I use a combination of dexamethasone and Vit B Co (B1). I am always worried about the damage caused by removing the barbed needle and not always sure how to handle that. Henry Labuschagne, [26 Jul 2023 at 08:25:51]: Fortunately, not common in my experience. If it happens it could recover with time. I inject Dexafort and BCo Bolic. Consider protecting the hoof of the affected leg with Vetlite during the recovery that could take a few weeks. Erik Verrynne, [26 Jul 2023 at 08:27:15]: Sorry BCo or B1 Henry Labuschagne, [26 Jul 2023 at 08:29:41]: Erik. I agree that you could damage nerves when removing barbed needles. To potentially cause less damage, I press the barb down to the needle and shorten the barb ⅔ with a side-cutter I prefer BCo fortified with B1. I find BCo has too low levels of B1. BCo Bolic is a BCo with selenium and phosphorous.
