Pierre Nel, [16 Jul 2024 at 16:27:53]: What is the preferred low opioid dose for waterbuck - is it still 1,5-2 mg Thianil + 5-6 mg medetomidine + 20-30 mg azaperone? Reverse with yohimbine/atipamezole iv a few minutes before Trexonil administration, and 20-25 mg water-based perphenazine im. if they are going to be standing a day or two? What is the average down time with Hyalase from the chopper with this combination? HO Reuter, [16 Jul 2024 at 17:09:26]: Hi Pierre, I don’t do that many waterbuck but found 1.5-2 mg Thianil + 3-4 mg medetomidine sufficient (and reasonable down time from chopper - around 5 min. with Hyalase). With 2 mg Thianil + 6 mg medetomidine, I find they are too “flat”. I guess just lowering the opioid, if 6 mg medetomidine is better, may be preferable, but I have not tried it yet. (I reverse with atipamezole / yohimbine combination at 2 x medetomidine dose). Jacs Mostert, [16 Jul 2024 at 17:32:44]: Evening, Here in Zimbabwe, we use 2 mg thiafentanil + 6 mg medetomidine + 30 mg azaperone (5 min down time from helicopter). We reverse with 3 ml yohimbine (IM) + 15 mg atipamezole & 20 mg naltrexone (mixed together IV). 30 mg water-based perphenazine is given as well. This works very well for us. Luis Amaral, [16 Jul 2024 at 19:53:57]: Why not put the water-based perphenazine in the dart instead of azaperone? I do it this way and it works very well. Also, there is less risk of possible extrapyramidal effect, especially with the combination of azaperone and WBP (water-based perphenazine).
