Jennifer Lawrence, [20 Mar 2023 at 09:15:42]: Hi all. What’s the dose of oral midazolam for jackal pups? Need to capture them for release tomorrow morning and want to give midazolam in food to make capture easier. They’re about 6 months old. I have the 15mg tablets and if I recall the dose will be tiny. Any suggestions of how I can best get this to work would be greatly appreciated. Bart Gazendam, [21 Mar 2023 at 07:55:00]: Hi Jennifer, depending on what sedation you want, the dose is probably between 0.2-1mg/kg orally. However if you are releasing in an open system it might not be ideal as they might be sleeping for a while. But can grind up a tablet, mix equally with a measured amount of food and give each the dose they should have 2 hours prior catching. (Dose even up to 4-5 mg/kg in some cases) Jennifer Lawrence, [21 Mar 2023 at 09:03:11]: Thanks Bart. I dosed about 1mg/kg in chicks. One seemed calmer, the other not. Also don’t think I waited long enough. We succeeded though in capturing. They’re going into soft release sites after a fair drive, so the effect will have worn off by the time they arrive.
