[10:30, 05/06/2022] Chris Foggin: Does anyone have an effective diet for a rescued (injured), adult aardwolf. Specialised, commercial preparations are generally unavailable in Zimbabwe. Thanks. [10:40, 05/06/2022] Daniel Kriel: Hills AD tins should work if you can get them. [10:46, 05/06/2022] Henry Labuschagne: They have very specific dietary needs, mainly termites. [10:49, 05/06/2022] Henry Labuschagne: These ones did well on a diet of pasta, mince, egg and termites. [10:54, 05/06/2022] David Pretorius: Have you tried meal worms? [10:56, 05/06/2022] Henry Labuschagne: You can feed mealworms and Superworms . [11:11, 05/06/2022] Henry Labuschagne: Oralade a good option to use during convalescence. [11:18, 05/06/2022] Chris Foggin: Thanks very much Henry, and others, for these helpful suggestions. We do also have some dried Mopane worms. I wonder if anyone has tried those. [11:20, 05/06/2022] Henry Labuschagne: He should eat it. I would offer a bowl with dry worms and a bowl with rehydrated dried worms. Good luck. Keep us posted. [11:24, 05/06/2022] Chris Foggin: I will do that. Thank you. I have to get him through fractured femur and radius/ulna repair also. [11:27, 05/06/2022] Erik Verryne: What’s the difference between meal worms and superworms? [11:28, 05/06/2022] Henry Labuschagne: Superworms look like mealworms on steroids - [11:29, 05/06/2022] Erik Verryne: Where does one get them? [11:30, 05/06/2022] Henry Labuschagne:: Most pet shops sell them. Best to get some and breed them yourself. [11:32, 05/06/2022] Henry Labuschagne: You can also get them dried and vacuum-packed. [11:34, 05/06/2022] Rob Jackson: Talk to fishermen, they often breed worms mealworms for bait. [11:48, 05/06/2022] Roy Bengis: Chris, something you may want to try is hard boiled eggs mash up with a bit of shell in it. Add enough full cream milk to make a thick paste. If the aardwolf takes this willingly, slowly begin to add a bit of cream, olive oil or coconut oil to increase lipid content. [16:39, 05/06/2022] Douw Grobler: Only raised aardwolf’s from pups. But there is a few things that we have used. Wet ID dog food. You can also use the pellets and soak them, then add termites ground up with added Digestase and some termite nest dirt. You want to keep it high protein and low fat. And you can blend it all up. What we also did was, we went into the villages and handed out containers and paid per 100g of termites. They need to be frozen quickly though. But we found that they would eat them.
