[2022/03/16, 08:36:04] Vicky: Good morning, I performed a post mortem on a meerkat from a wildlife park in the Western Cape with no macroscopic pathology present. The histopathology results confirmed infection with systemic toxoplasmosis. I have tried to obtain more information on toxoplasmosis infection in viverrids but very little literature has been published. My thoughts are that the case is as result of feral cats gaining access to the enclosures and transmission occurred via faeco-oral route of transmission. Do you possibly have more information on this topic? Thanks in advance. Practise good hygiene from food preparation to food offering. There’s a few prophylactic antibiotics (mainly clindamycin) protocols if you suspect more cases. [2022/03/16, 08:59:24] Vicky: Thank you! [2022/03/16, 09:07:24] Ockert Botha: Clindamycin 12.5 mg/kg PO or IV q 12 hr; trimethoprim sulphonamide 15 mg/kg PO q 12 h; azithromycin 10 mg/kg PO q 24 hr for a minimum of 4 weeks. [2022/03/16, 09:09:36] Ockert Botha: I personally suggest Azithromycin then no danger of oesophageal strictures.
