Ulf Tubessing, [30 Jul 2023 at 14:46:22]: Hi everybody. I must take 10 tsessebe to Angola - they will be on the truck for around 5 days. I have very limited long distance transport experience with this species, thus the following questions: 1) what dose of WBP (water-based perphenazine/ perphenazine hydrochloride) would you recommend? 2) I will preferably dart younger animals. 3) Once well tranquilised, can they be crated 2-3 females together? Any other pearls of wisdom would be much appreciated! Kind regards Ulf Henry Labuschagne, [30 Jul 2023 at 16:21:23]: Adult females I use 20mg WBP. I would not put > 2 per compartment for a long trip. Hang ample branches with leaves on from the roof. Provide water with Carmino plus during travel. Pole syringe with midazolam to use prn on truck. HO Reuter, [02 Aug 2023 at 07:14:33]: Hi Ulf, I only have limited experience with tsessebe. We used to keep small groups of females from 1 herd in boma at Okosongoro’s Auctions. We used to saw the horn tips and wrap rubber tube around the horn tips kept in place with binding wire. After the auction, we usually loaded them together and never had issues. I would not load them together after darting without covering blunted horns, even though those tsessebe you’ll dart are very relaxed and “tame”. As with roan, tsessebe can be similarly aggressive to each other in confined spaces.
