Shaun Roper Good day colleagues. I have a 2 yr old captive bred lioness that has a recurring abscess on maxilla above the canine. I took rads and have recommended extraction of the canine tooth. The client is reluctant and wants to know if there is anything else that could be done. This seems to have been kicked off by a fractured canine, the canine doesn't seem so bad but there is clearly problems in the bone. Previously treated with penicillin. Henry Labuschagne, [24 May 2023 at 16:57:02]: Speak to Prof Gerhard Steenkamp. Damaged enamel and pulp looks exposed. You will need to do root canal treatment and put a crown on the tooth.. Give a course of Clindamycin if no culture and antibiogram was done. Gerhard Steenkamp, [25 May 2023 at 08:37:02]: Hi Shaun. RCT is an option but in such a young tooth with infection already the prognosis has to be guarded. Happy to help if they are keen to try.
