Kevin Robertson, 13 June 2025 Hi Colleagues. Has anyone ever used injectable levamisole to treat H. contortus infections in sable? This is a big problem here in Texas (we are currently getting lots of rain), where I'm sure we have fenbendazole (and maybe the start of macrocyclic lactone) resistance. Copper Oxide Wire Particles (COWPs) work well, but they are difficult to administer (we usually mix them with corn syrup and spread on protein pellets). I am looking for another option to treat individuals with high faecal egg counts (FEC). Bossie Boshoff Hi. You can use closantel injectable also. There are a number of options to administer this in or over the food being fed. Zolvix is a bit on the pricey side, but it still works in most herds that I know of. Kevin Robertson Thanks Bossie, but we can't get Zolvix here. The same with closantel - it is not FDA approved here, hence my question about levamisole - I can get an injectable compounded. Bossie Boshoff Sorry, I understood levamisole was banned 🙈. I was asked the question before going out of Texas. I have used Pro Dose Red, which is levamisole if I remember correctly, with good results on certain farms sprinkled over the food. Kevin Robertson Bossie, I am not sure about the ban on levamisole here, because we can get Prohibit here which is an oral drench levamisole powder. The compounding pharmacist here tells me he can get levamisole and make an injectable solution, as no injectables are currently available. Bossie Boshoff I have never had a bad experience with oral administration, but cannot comment on an injectable preparation.
