16 May 2022 Douw Grobler : [12:22, 16/05/2022] Roy Bengis: This appears to be a leucistic calf. I saw several during my tenure in Kruger National Park. Their muzzle and hooves are normally pigmented. They become darker with time and as adults are usually honey coloured. [14:00, 16/05/2022] Douw Grobler: Albino Buffalo in a Tanzania National Park [14:45, 16/05/2022] Roy Bengis: We raised one of those leucistic buffalo at Skukuza, until he was an adult bull. He was used for disease research. One thing I found out is that these leucistic buffalo are exquisitely sensitive to opioids. As an adult, I used to knock him down for blood sampling with 1.5mg M99 + 15- 20 mg azaperone.
