Nico Hendriksz, [14 August 2022] Good evening I need some help from the rhino experts. Over the last month two of my clients at different locations lost juvenile rhinos between 2-36 months of age. In 2 of the 18-36 age group we diagnose Clostridium novyi on FAT on liver impression smears. In the 2-18 months group the PM was relative negative, except for large numbers of ascarids/roundworms in the colon. I could not find much internal fat and no milk in the stomach. On histopathology the lungs were flooded with eosinophilic material (fibrin rich oedema) and black pigment in the villi of the intestine ( iron due to enteric haemorrhage) 1: How much milk and where would you see it in the stomach and intestines? 2: Is the worms in the picture too much? 3: Would you get fat around the heart and kidneys in young rhinos? 4: Is Clostridium novyi relevant?
