Peter Rogers, [17 May 2024 at 05:56:38]: Good morning everyone. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience on the contraceptive effects of Improvac on lionesses and the reversibility thereof please? Bart Gazendam, [18 May 2024 at 06:11:57]: Morning Pete, we discussed it a few weeks ago here in the group. It works, but you have to dart them quite a few times before it works. Also, the duration of effect is quite changeable. According to Henk Bertschinger, the initial dose has to be repeated after 5-7 weeks and then repeated every 5-6 months. Peter Rogers, [18 May 2024 at 06:24:08]: Morning Bart. Thank you for this. Iām more concerned about the reversibility of Improvac if at any stage one wants to breed with the lioness again. I darted 2 lionesses every 5 months for a number of years and it appeared to work really well and when we moved them to another area with no males where it was not necessary to contracept them, they never came back into oestrus again - or so it seemed anyway. So I guess my question is how risky is it to use Improvac in animals that one may want to breed with at a later stage? Bart Gazendam, [18 May 2024 at 06:47:12]: Yes. I think there is not enough data on it. I have also used it in horses that completely stop cycling after a few injections. So I would use it very cautiously if reversibility is wanted at one stage!
