Bossie Boshoff, [09 Jun 2022 at 19:23:25]: Hi Luis I am old school still on some species in certain situations. I gave this ram 2 mg Thianil and 50 mg ketamine in the dart. 0,5cc 3/4” needle. Darted from ground and was about a 50m shot. Even if dart hits and bounces, you still get a good dosage of Thianil or even with a slight poor dart placement enough to get the animal with enough effect to catch and handle. With darting from ground this animal was in an 80ha camp but we all know how quickly an impala can disappear, especially here in the area I practice. With the Thianil + ketamine they start getting back to their feet in about 90 to 110min without any intervention if not found and went down with no airway obstruction. This animal was sold for R135000.00 and was done from ground and I did it with combination I am used to and knew, as no helicopter was used or on standby. Gave the ram 6 mg haloperidol and 40 mg azaperone IM right before reversal. Reversal done with M5050 only. I do not like hanging branches in the transport. I was in the back of a transport trailer on a farm with hanging branches driving from one camp to a next to experience how it was and it was noisy and branches hitting me the whole time. I prefer a nice thick bed of grass.
