[16:48, 01/06/2022] Gareth Hunter: What combination would you recommend to immobilize a 20 year old and possibly compromised lioness? (Has been on and off food, a bit lethargic).Likely not a long procedure, and will try and go as low on dosages as possible. I am thinking possibly BAM or maybe Ulf’s medetomidine/Zoletil/butorphanol mix to try and keep medetomidine dose low (0.02mg/kg). Unfortunately don’t have midazolam currently. I will supplement with O2 and give fluids [16:55, 01/06/2022] Jacques O’Dell: Gareth, it may be better to avoid high doses of medetomidine in a compromised case. You will get away with lower medetomidine in ketamine/medetomidine combination than in BAM. [16:58, 01/06/2022] Annie Mears: I’ve used BMM in two 21 year old compromised lions and was very happy with the result. Butorphanol 0.2mg/kg, medetomidine 0.02-0.03 mg/kg and then midazolam ideally 0.2mg/kg or however much you can get in dart. I never had a problem - I topped up with small doses of ketamine IV where necessary. Reversal was with atipamezole 1/3 IV and the rest IM and naltrexone IV
