Neil Parsons, [24 Jan 2024 at 10:41:56]: Good morning all, does anyone know if imidocarb is toxic to vultures? Can a cattle carcass treated with Imizol be fed in a vulture restaurant? I can’t find anything online about it Hayden Cuthill Hi Neil, this is a hand-out we got from Vulpro years ago. I'm not sure if anything has changed since then or new data has emerged. See the bottom paragraphs, maybe this answers your question? Erik Verrynne, [24 Jan 2024 at 10:52:08]: Hi Neil. I don’t believe there are any research being done on it in this regard. The half-life is relatively short. If the animal died longer than 24 hours after administration, my logic says it should be ok. It is excreted through the kidneys. So, removing the kidneys may add an extra level of safety. Neil Parsons, [24 Jan 2024 at 11:01:46]: Thanks for that Henry Labuschagne, [24 Jan 2024 at 11:58:29]: It accumulates in kidney and liver, and excreted mainly through faeces and small amount in urine. I would suggest that you discard the intestines and other organs and just feed the carcass to be safe. Neil Parsons, [24 Jan 2024 at 12:03:03]: Thank you, I have advised that as well as removal of the muscles around the injection site Erik Verrynne, [24 Jan 2024 at 12:18:28]: https://www.fao.org/fileadmin/user_upload/vetdrug/docs/41-11-imidocarb_dipropionate.pdf Here is quite a comprehensive study on tissue residue in different animals.
