David Pretorius, [30 Mar 2024 at 12:03:06]: Is there any one here that has any experience with liver fluke in buffalo? Dx and Tx? Xander van Eeden, [30 Mar 2024 at 12:10:41]: Hi, Faecal sediment is necessary to see the eggs - even 1 or 2 are significant. Oral dosing with any product containing triclabendazole is effective. It’s the only thing that kills all stages. Elmien Kotze, [30 Mar 2024 at 13:08:03]: There is a blood test that we use to check cattle for liver fluke and horses - can't remember if it was antigen or antibody response, but it was on serum samples Henry Labuschagne, [30 Mar 2024 at 17:54:33]: Antibody test. ELISA. Can pick up infection about a month after exposure. Jacoba Donga, 30 Mar 2024 In cattle, false negatives can occur with faecal sedimentation, because the gallbladder needs to contract to release the eggs into the intestine. Repeat the tert if you do a single animal or else take representative sample from a group if possible. You can pool faeces (I think up to 10) for testing. Mix individual specimens before taking the sample for the pool.
