HO Reuter, [01 Sep 2024 at 20:05:16]: Good evening, Do you think this age estimates vs shoulder heights for African elephant are accurate? Kobus du Toit included this in a booklet he published in 2001. I know us Namibian vets often perceive everything here a bit bigger and tougher than down south. For example, I estimate our 150 cm shoulder height elephant calves 3-4 year old, and certainly not yet 6 years old, as indicated in the table above. The cows of these 150 cm calves are still lactating and the calves suckling. Does anyone have another (maybe more accurate) publication, or table on elephant age estimates from shoulder height measurements? Thanks in advance! I see with what start info I can come up with.
