Jacoba Dongo, [18 Oct 2024 at 13:25:56]: A question about hares (Lepus sp.): I am investigating an outbreak of deaths of hares on the highveld (9 carcasses found over 17 days in Sept). We could not get carcasses for necropsy. One rectal swab was submitted and tested negative for rabbit haemorrhagic disease virus. I still suspect it is RHD. Some were found dead in open sheds where there was soybeans and soybean husks on the ground. We suspect that they came to eat there. There may also have been maize kernels around.
