Hezy Anholt, [19 Apr 2023 at 12:00:31]: Hey group. One of our national parks from time to time reports injured or sick elephant and request veterinary intervention - the tricky thing is that it seems that sometimes these elephant are individuals who left the park and were hazed back in by rangers and shot several times in the process (but this is not provided explicitly in the history). Is it possible to treat an ADR elephant (ain't doing right) who I suspect will have multiple draining tracts from migrating bullets? Is a long-acting antibiotic and NSAID, plus wound flushing, if possible, likely to make a difference? Alex Lewis, [19 Apr 2023 at 12:28:56]: Culling should be number one on our list for repeat offenders. We are wasting resources and helping to give elephants a bad name. I cull and sell meat and it helps pay conservation bills and feed rural children. Like euthanasia of a cancer patient, we need to guide owners to understand the road ahead. Hezy Anholt, [19 Apr 2023 at 12:32:38]: I think (apart from the ethical question, purely medical answers here) as long as you don’t remove the problem (bullet, bone fragments etc) the draining will continue and it will take a very long time…
