Ivan van Wyk, [02 Sep 2024 at 18:48:19]: Good day everyone. Does anybody have a helpful protocol for capturing of fallow deer (Dama dama) and also a tranquilizer dose for transport? Luis Amaral, [02 Sep 2024 at 19:42:21]: Hendrik Hansen uses 0,5 mg Thianil + 1.5 - 2 mg medetomidine + 4 mg water-based perphenazine (WBP). I have used 1.2 -1.5 mg opioid mix of Thianil and etorphine, 30 mg ketamine and 10 mg midazolam with good results In Europe, Jonas Spruyt uses 0.2 mg/kg detomidine + 0.4 - 0.8 azaperone per kg and ketamine 2 mg/kg. 30mm needles are optimal. He posted a video in the group a while back. For transportation, 8-10 mg haloperidol or water-based perphenazine (WBP) for short distances. Midazolam is sufficient for up to 3 hours. Keith Ross has posted previously that he has used 0.5 mg Thianil or M99 + 1 mg medetomidine, and a top-up 0.5 ml dart with human midazolam. Henry might want to comment - he used higher dosages of M99 and medetomidine to get them down If they are fat, needle length is critical. Ivan van Wyk, [03 Sep 2024 at 09:00:58]: Thanks Luis Henry Labuschagne, [03 Sep 2024 at 09:24:44]: Sorry for the late reply. I use M99 1.5mg + medetomidine 1mg + midazolam 5mg for stags in good condition. I add Hyalase 1500 iu. NO THIANIL and NO azaperone in my books for deer. Dopram 1ml stat. as soon as they are down. Butorphanol prn. Luis Amaral, [03 Sep 2024 at 17:53:44]: Thanks Henry to share your wisdom 😊 Janan De Welzim, [07 Sep 2024 at 08:50:21]: I used 1mg etorphine and 2 medetomidine and topped up the dart with Hyalase. When you get to the fallow deer, reverse the medetomidine. It was down by 9 mins. Luis Amaral, [04 Sep 2024 at 12:28:01]: Hi Ivan, did you dart the fellow deer? What was the outcome?
