Kevin Robertson, [24 Mar 2025 at 16:28:56]: Good morning colleagues. A quick question from a contact in Zambia who is in the process of setting up a community project to produce castor oil. He is asking if elephants and buffalo will eat the Ricinus communis plant. Erik Verrynne, [24 Mar 2025 at 17:07:01]: Hi Kevin. Highly unlikely. It does not taste great and the ricin and ricinine in the seeds are quite toxic. I have never seen them eating it in the wild. It may be worth asking colleagues in India if Asian elephants ever invade the Ricinus crops. Kevin Robertson, [24 Mar 2025 at 20:10:34]: Thank you, Erik. I appreciate the prompt response. I will do as you suggest regarding India.
