Ettienne Pieterse, 30 August 2024 Good afternoon. Anyone with a nice mix to dart an adult sable bull and move him tranquilized (on back of bakkie) to another farm about 25 km away? Erik Verrynne, [30 Aug 2024 at 14:01:55]: Thianil 2-2.5 mg + medetomidine 4 mg + azaperone 25 mg is my usual mixture. I top up with 50 mg ketamine iv. if he gets too awake - they travel well like that. Do the usual things - keep sternal, neck straight, and keep head high and nose low. Hendrik Hansen, [30 Aug 2024 at 15:01:00]: Thianil 0.75 mg + medetomidine 5-6 mg + azaperone 15 mg for an adult bull Ettienne Pieterse, [30 Aug 2024 at 15:15:16]: Thanks! HO Reuter, [30 Aug 2024 at 18:10:07]: Do they not go “too deep” for you at that dosage, Erik? Thianil 1.5 mg + medetomidine 4 mg + azaperone or perphenazine hydrochloride (water-based perphenazine/ WBP) 20 mg works well for me. I just give an extra minute or two induction time. At higher dosages I prefer to load them and reverse sooner. Erik Verrynne, [30 Aug 2024 at 18:12:44]: Hi HO. No. I find the opposite some times and then need to give ketamine iv. I do not use WBP for short translocations where they will be introduced with other animals. I prefer to still use azaperone. I only use WBP for transport longer than a few hours.
