Combinations for bushbuck immobilisation

Ulf Tubessing, [04 Sep 2023 at 13:40:24]:

Good afternoon, what is your recommended dosage on bushbuck immobilisation?

Gary Bauer, [04 Sep 2023 at 13:45:51]:

Hi Ulf. On a ram, I use Thianil 1mg, medetomidine 1.5mg +  azaperone 10 mg

Neil Parsons, [04 Sep 2023 at 14:51:37]:

Hi Ulf, we use 0.5 mg Thianil, 2mg medetomidine,10 mg azaperone with great results. I have tried 0.25 mg Thianil, 2 mg medetomidine, plus 10 mg azaperone with good results too.

Hendrik Hansen, [04 Sep 2023 at 15:24:36]:

Thianil 0.3 mg + medetomidine 2.5 mg plus 10 azaperone.

HO Reuter, [04 Sep 2023 at 21:26:05]:

Before medetomidine usage,  I used 2-2.5 mg Thianil and 20 mg Stresnil for mature ewes / rams. This gave very good, sternal immobilisation. I have recently used 0.5 mg Thianil, 1 mg medetomidine, plus 10 WBP (water-based perphenazine/ perphenazine hydrochloride) on young rams. It provided a good standing / walking immobilisation. Of all the spiral horn antelope,  bushbuck need the least drugs and generally show really nice immobilisations, but once skittish or panicky (even or especially in boma), they stress easily and are best left un-darted, and not disturbed to calm down.

Hi Ulf. Sound advice from others above. My cocktail depends on terrain.

Normally it is in thick bush and if the down time is delayed, they can easily disappear and you spend a lot of time searching for a darted bushbuck.

I use Hyalase 1500 iu, Thianil 2 mg  medetomidine 1 mg, plus azaperone 20 mg.

If possible, rather use a transmitter dart.
