Ean van den Berg, 13 Feb 2024 Hi All, please share your thought on this buffalo heifer. My first DD is MCF. Bilateral corneal opacity with severe horizontal nystagmus. Temp: 41°C Thoracic auscultation: Crackles; Mucopurulent nasal discharge. I took this video sitting next to her without the administration of any sedative/immobilization drugs. I also collected blood also collected without any sedation/tranquilization. She is free roaming on 500ha - the owner saw her this morning against the fence. Any other ideas? Henry Labuschagne, 13 Feb 2024 MCF high on DD list Are there any sheep in close contact with buffalo ? My 2nd DD would be Snotsiekte. Are the peripheral lnn enlarged ? Ean van den Berg, 13 Feb 2024. No sheep close by, only wildebeest. Bossie Boshoff, 13 Feb 2024 I had buffalo with all the same symptoms confirmed for MCF. She had a calf when delivered from Thabazimbi area onto a farm near Gravelotte. Cow was sent to OP for PM as it was insured animal. The calf also died not long after, also from confirmed MCF. This was reported to the state veterinarian, but no response. Wildebeest associated MCF Johan Wessels, 14 Feb 2024 Morning Colleagues. A farmer in our area bought about 30 buffalo which were kept in boma with sheep nearby. Some were released on the farm after translocation. Others were put in bomas. A few that were released on the farm died. One cow that was in a boma with the bull died with typical keratoconjunctivitis and runny nose. The bull started showing symptoms of swollen conjunctivas and sero- purulent nasal discharge. It was darted with Draxxin, Kyroligo and Vetcam. In the meantime, a 2 month old calf fell ill in another boma. It was darted, and I drew blood. She died and a full autopsy was done. The samples were sent to Johan Steyl. Ovine MCF positive. The bull was fine, and I suggested the farmer do a genital soundness before released. I think we should educate our farmers not to allow sheep near game sale yards or close to buffalo pens or camps or farms.
