Carlos Costa, 18 Jan 2025 Good morning. I would like to know if anyone knows about BVD (Bovine viral diarrhoea) in giraffes? If so, is there any treatment when they already show clinical signs such as lethargy and haemorrhagic diarrhoea? Thank you very much Carlos Bart Gazendam, 20 Jan 2025 Hi Carlos, it’s been described in the literature here and there, but not super common in giraffe. Are they captive? Why do you suspect BVD? Carlos Costa, [22 Jan 2025 at 5:41:42 PM]: Hello, Bart. Yes, captive animals in a safari park in Portugal. I'm not sure if it's BVD but some of the clinical signs fit, such as mouth ulcers and haemorrhagic diarrhoea, as well as lethargy and anorexia. The giraffe is also pregnant. I'm thinking BVD, as Portugal has a high prevalence of this disease
