Ian Parsons, [29 Jul 2024 at 12:58:36]: Good afternoon. I’m interested to hear if there is a significant incidence (if any) of Bovine Malignant Catarrh (BMC / BMF) in buffalo where they share range with wildebeest on game farms? Roy Bengis, [29 Jul 2024 at 13:28:13]: Hi Ian, in the Kruger National Park, we had 35000 buffalo sharing range with about 7000 blue wildebeest, and BMC was never diagnosed in buffalo, probably because of immunological endemic stability. Fatal BMC has been diagnosed in zoo buffalo and in project buffalo introduced onto farms that have wildebeest and sheep. Andy Fraser, [29 Jul 2024 at 13:45:59]: Ian, we have seen cases down here. They're usually isolated cases (very low morbidity). I suspect in the Kruger system that the blind buffalo get eaten by predators quite quickly. Most of my cases have been sheep associated Gary Bauer, [29 Jul 2024 at 14:07:16]: Hi Ian. I have had 2 outbreaks of wildebeest-related BMC in buffalo Ian Parsons, [30 Jul 2024 at 15:09:08]: Thanks for these insights. Much appreciated. Paul Reynolds, [31 Jul 2024 at 03:02:53]: In the Free State, quite a few cases have been seen. Also, a high morbidity and deaths without typical signs. Enlarged lnn and liver issues. Lots of year-old calf deaths Since all the wildebeest have been removed, deaths have dropped from 30 to 2 in a year.
