Gareth Hunter, [12 Oct 2023 at 12:27:22]: Has anybody ever seen tetanus causing coxofemoral luxations? I have a collapsed 10-month-old male kudu calf which initially had spastic paresis of all legs. It seems to go through periods of this spasticity and fairly normal muscle function. Has pain sensation and can move them a bit, but not very much. His condition is generally terrible. Poor quality coat and body condition. He has bilateral hip luxation. His mentation is pretty normal and he is eating a little bit. I can’t understand why he has paresis in all 4 limbs if the luxations are the primary problem. The front limbs are radiographically normal. It does not seem to be hypoglycaemic. Blood smear - perhaps a mild leukopaenia. AST and CK are elevated (not surprisingly). It also has a small bony abscess-like lesion in the mandible, extending to tooth roots. Regardless of what’s come first, prognosis is fairly grave, I would assume? Those hips will be a big issue surely? I think euthanasia is the kind thing to do. Thanks a million. Had not been vaccinated for tetanus at any point
