Ulf Tubessing, [30 Oct 2024 at 18:22:32]: Does anybody have an immobilisation protocol for a dromedary bull? Bart Gazendam, [30 Oct 2024 at 20:31:02]: I managed to get a nice standing sedation with BAM (butorphanol/azaperone/medetomidine or Bamanil), estimated 300-350 kgs, gave 1 ml IM with dart. It was approachable after 8-9 minutes, slightly wobbly, but didn’t go down 👍🏼 Then I did the same for a bull for castration, gave it ketamine to go down, and it worked great Ulf Tubessing, [31 Oct 2024 at 08:09:08]: Thank you Gareth Hunter, [31 Oct 2024 at 09:45:07]: Hi Ulf. I’ve used 60 mg xylazine and 100 mg butorphanol IM. in a female Bactrian camel (estimated weight of 400 kg). She remained standing, but was nicely sedated. As Bart suggests, added ketamine should do the trick if you need him recumbent. Ulf Tubessing, [31 Oct 2024 at 10:31:55]: Thanks everybody! Bart Gazendam, [31 Oct 2024 at 11:46:06]: Also use BAM for them, can add ketamine. Seems to work well! For a one year old probably 0.4 mls, and top up dart with 60 mg ketamine Ulf Tubessing, [31 Oct 2024 at 17:14:50]: I just wish we could get BAM here 🥴 HO Reuter, [31 Oct 2024 at 17:24:10]: Novecy does compound V-techs BAM (same ratios as Wildlife Pharmaceuticals, or used to until recently) Ulf Tubessing, [31 Oct 2024 at 17:46:18]: Thanks HO Andreas Gaugler, 1 Nov 2024 Hi Bart. How much ketamine? Bart Gazendam, 1 Nov 2024 I think I gave them 100-200 mg or something, very little for them to go down Erik Verrynne, [01 Nov 2024 at 12:34:13]: Hi Ulf. Depends on what you want to do. I use Thianil 3 mg and 30 mg azaperone for castrations. It does suppress respiration a bit, but I did 30 bulls and it took about 20 mins max for the castrations. All recovered well with the naltrexone. Ulf Tubessing, [01 Nov 2024 at 16:53:41]: Hi Erik. A bull that must be loaded Alex Lewis, [01 Nov 2024 at 17:12:05]: 1mg M99 (etorphine HCL) and water. They go down or stand still, they still like to bite, but are easy to rope and blindfold and then easy to deal with. They will stand and walk with a prodder.
