Awais Baig, [22 May 2025 at 14:24:44 (22 May 2025 at 14:27:08)]: Hi. I need some help. How much etorphine and azaperone mg in total do I need to sedate an adult African elephant for relocation? It will be transferred from one city to another, with 8 - 10 hr in a crate. Doses that I checked are etorphine 10 – 12 mg + azaperone 80 mg in total. Do I need to give drugs separately apart or at same time? Please guide me about the antidote. Erik Verrynne, [22 May 2025 at 21:40:37]: Hi Awais. 15 - 20 mg etorphine can be used. I seldom use higher than 30 - 50mg azaperone. If higher, they may struggle to get up in the crate. Once up in the crate, you can give another 50 mg and then another 80 - 100 mg. The azaperone may however not last for the duration of the trip - you can add 20 to 30 mg haloperidol instead of azaperone for the trip.
