[2022/03/15, 07:11:18] Nele Sabbe: A client lost a baby alpaca last week with these symptoms. This morning they saw this little one does the same. Any suggestions for DD? [2022/03/15, 07:53:36] Heather Nixon: Looks like a foal I had when started with West Nile Virus. Do they get similar viruses? [2022/03/15, 07:55:05] Nele Sabbe: Exactly what I am afraid of. No idea. I am not really an alpaca specialist. [2022/03/15, 08:00:41] Henry Labuschagne: Nele. My first DD is Redgut. Test urine sample for glucose. Treat with Advocin, Fluids iv, Finadyne. Dose Pectrolyte and Enterozoo. [2022/03/15, 08:16:10] Nele Sabbe: Dankie baie [2022/03/15, 10:26:19] Katja Koeppel: Nele you can send EDTA and serum for neurotrophic viruses to Centre of Viral Zoonosis, University of Pretoria will send you forms if you need. [2022/03/23, 07:30:09] Heather Nixon: Hi Nele. Did you get an answer on this one? [2022/03/23, 07:37:29] Nele Sabbe: Hi Heather, yes. Mom didn't have any milk in the udder. I could literally milk a few drips and there was no way that the baby just drunk as it was too weak to stand. I also compared the mom's udder to another mom that has a healthy baby that is a few days older than that one: nice full udder. Unfortunately the little one was already too weak to pull her through and died the next day...
